In 1999, when Latin music was still virtually unknown in South Korea.
Ricky (real name: Kim Ji-hun) was one of the first to begin working as a DJ specializing in Latin music in South Korea.
Having spent his teenage years in Argentina, he is not only fluent in Spanish but also possesses a deep understanding of the Latino sensibility and the unique atmosphere of Latin America. As such, he has been a leading figure in South Korea’s Latin music scene for many years.
His sets blend a deep understanding of Latin music, cultivated over many years, with the unique sensibility he acquired in South America.
With his passionate, energetic style—and above all, his track selection and performance tailored “for the dancers”—he instantly ignites the dance floor, delivering an unforgettable experience to the dancers.
He has participated as the main DJ in the KOREA SALSA CONGRESS—once known as South Korea’s premier Latin event—since its very first edition.
Currently, in addition to participating annually as the Head DJ at the Jeju Latin Culture Festival, one of South Korea’s largest Latin events, he is invited to renowned Latin festivals held around the world, including in the United States, Europe, and Asia, where his unique playing style and musical sensibility are highly acclaimed.
While active as a DJ at various Latin events and social parties both in Korea and abroad, he is further expanding his scope of activities by leveraging the diverse mixing styles and techniques unique to digital DJing—including training specialized Latin DJs, planning and producing events centered on Latin culture, and providing consulting services.
Additionally, he hosts monthly branded social parties that he produces himself at one of Seoul’s leading Latin clubs. There, he not only delivers music as a DJ but also conducts workshops to share the history and musical background of salsa.
For 27 years, he has walked side by side with the Korean Latin scene.
Transcending the role of a mere DJ, DJ RICKY has passed on music, dance, and Latin culture from person to person.
